As a widow, you feel like your life has ended. In a way it has, even though every fiber of your soul doesn’t want the shock and abandonment. It is unfair and awful.

Allow yourself to travel your grief journey, and you will happen upon the other side. Even if you don’t want a comeback, you get one.

What Can I Do for a Widow?

Sometimes, when you ask a widow what she needs, she may not even know herself. That’s why offering specific help—or simply taking the initiative—can mean so much.

The most important thing you can do is be present, not just in the immediate aftermath, but for the long haul. Grief doesn’t end when the funeral is over. Widows face the daunting task of building a new life and learning to do everything on their own.

It’s a scary, and lonely journey that feels impossible at times. All of her life plans died when her partner died and your support can make a huge difference.

Lisa Woolery

After two decades as a public relations executive, Lisa was thrown into widowing without warning. Not ashamed of her many "hot messes," Lisa opens up about the challenges of rebuilding life after the desolation of losing her husband.

She shares her story with grit, humor, and raw honesty so that other widows know they don’t have to be perfect in the face of grief. In The Widow’s Comeback, Lisa dives into money, abandonment, parenting tweens, dating, self-forgiveness, and faith. She offers companionship and hope.

Lisa lives in Kansas City, loving on her two teenagers while chasing after her three rapscallion dogs. For fun, she travels the world, plays pickleball, and reads in her cheetah-print recliner.
