Here we are in March. I love March because I used to be Irish. I know that sounds weird but when I took a home DNA test, I found out that I am 10% Irish instead of 75%. I don’t care, I am Irish at heart!
Have you tackled your calendar for the month yet? Go ahead and do it. If it is a bad month, filled with days you don’t want to do, get out the calendar and put a heart, or a shamrock, or even a middle finger on the days you need to plan for.
Then plan. Think on it a day or two. Call your people. Ask for support.
We lost my dad in May and my mom is facing a brutal month, her anniversary. I am so proud of her though. She called her best friend—they have been friends since junior high—because she lost her husband last year also. Since they were both March brides, they are celebrating their anniversaries together. I am sure tears and alcohol will be involved and that is great. Just what the two of them need right now.
March is blessedly easy for me. Eric used to corn his own beef and have a celebration. Well, that is not going to happen, but I am going to make a traditional St. Patrick’s Day dinner and we invited my daughter’s youth pastor and mentor and her husband to eat with us. I am very excited.
Lisa’s Easy Corned Beef
1 corned beef in the package with all the spices
Red potatoes, a cabbage head cut in fourths, some carrots
6 pack of Guinness Stout or your favorite Irish beer
Place everything in a pot and cover with water. Add a bottle of beer. Boil until meat pulls apart.
Open another bottle of beer, relax, and enjoy a moment.
My aunt says this when she is serious.
May the road rise up to meet you.
May the wind be always at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your face.
The rains fall soft upon your fields.
And, until we meet again,
May God hold you in the palm of
His Hand.
--Irish Blessing
But she also says this. You choose your blessing for the month.
Here’s to those who wish us well,
and those who don’t can go to hell.

If you need some ideas or just to vent about the terribleness of your month, email me at lisa@thewidowscomeback.com. I love hearing from you guys and answering all my emails.
To get in the spirit of St. Patrick’s Day, here are a couple of items from Amazon you might love.
I ordered this sweatshirt and can’t wait to wear it to dinner at my house and then to pickleball. I won’t get pinched for sure!
This is my current favorite Irish book by memoirist Susy Flory. I am excited to meet her in several weeks when I accompany her and other aspiring memoirists on a trip to Ireland where we will meet Patrick and visit the donkey farm.
*I do receive a small portion of your purchase if you choose to buy from my link.
Thank you if you do, I just may make enough to buy a Guinness when I am in Ireland!
